Snow to the rescue

January is usually quite depressing isn't it? Christmas is over, it is still dark and cold but the Christmas lights have been packed away and it looks extra dark. We're on diets and have started our health kick and the weather is at its worst, flood, snow and frost making that commute extra arduous.

Enter January 2021 - a January to beat all Januarys - not only are we dealing with the usual list of downers, but we are stuck at home, no trips to the pub, no dinner with friends, no theatre, shopping trips or visits to Ikea to break up the monotony. I have noticed the mood of all those I am in contact with deflate to the lowest level yet. And then it snowed.

And just for a day the world was transformed into a magical kingdom. The litter was buried, the mud was frozen under a white blanket and the skies were clear and pastel shaded. We had a moment of beauty in the midst of gloom.

Working from home meant the car stayed buried under heaps of snow on the drive, the travel chaos was avoided and I could enjoy the peace and beauty of it rather than the inconvenience. Keep looking for the things that this pandemic gives us, the commute will be back soon enough.
